Time is precious, so why would you want to waste it shaving or waxing? Permanent hair removal is a long-term solution for both men and women that want to save time, money and get rid of unwanted hair. But we hear the cogs turning and you asking why now – it’s winter? Here are our top 3 reasons:
Permanent hair removal takes time.
We recommend a series of 4 to 6 treatments (depending on the area) spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart to achieve the best results. Each hair follicle that will be zapped by the laser is at different stages of growth. The hair follicles are most susceptible to laser energy in their active growth phase which means not all hair follicles will receive treatment during the first session. If you want to be hair-free come summer, it’s best to start sooner (as in now) rather than later.
Keep out of the sun.
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment but that doesn’t mean you should skip the necessary precautions and post-care guidelines. The area surrounding the hair follicle might appear red and swollen after treatment, it’s best to avoid the sun two weeks prior and post-treatment as it could further sensitise the skin. It’s much easier to avoid the sun in winter than in summer, wouldn’t you say?
To target all the hair follicles, we recommend allowing the hair in the targeted area to grow out. Easier said than done, especially if you want to go shirt-free or wear a flirty summer dress. We find that it’s easier for our clients to cover-up regrowth in winter than it is in spring or summer.
How exactly does laser hair removal work?
At Sunninghill Aesthetics we use the Lightsheer 800 nm diode laser system. This device has been tested and proven safe and effective to use on most skin types, even darker skin types such as Type IV and V on the Fitzgerald scale.
The laser energy is delivered to the skin surface through a sapphire chill tip. The laser energy is attracted by the dark pigments in the hair follicle and shaft. (This why the treatment is not recommended for individuals with light or grey hair.) The laser energy then destroys or damages the hair root and it can’t produce any more hair.
Is the treatment painful?
Patients may experience slight discomfort, but this is the exception rather than the rule. The Lightsheer EP diode laser’s ChillTip handpiece provides greater comfort by cooling the skin before, during and after treatment and protects the surface of the skin.
